Spring Concert Will Salute Broadway

The Caribbean Chorale will salute Broadway with its spring concert this year. Show time is 7 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at the Charlotte Amalie High School auditorium.
Well known for its annual performances of Handel’s Messiah, the Chorale has been a staple on the V.I. music scene for more than 40 years, with a repertoire ranging from operatic to pop, and featuring heavy doses of traditional Caribbean music.
Directing the concert will be Lawrence Benjamin, who was the group’s regular director from 1975 to 1982 and who has kept up his association over the years.
Several members of the Chorale will sing featured parts and/or solos. Additionally, Benjamin said, “There are some really super voices coming in” as guest artists. Guest musicians will include Prof. Austin Venzen on flute, Richard Harrigan on drums and Iniko Williams on base, as well as regulars Verdell Porter and Monet Davis on piano. Among the soloists will be Lorna Freeman Dennis, Andrew Bowers, Daphne Wallace and Detra Davis.
Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Outlets are Island Video, Nisky Center; He Say-She Say, Tutu Park Mall; Modern Music, Havensight; Nora’s Beauty Palace, First Street; Home Again, Red Hook, and from Chorale members.
For more information, contact Nora M. Williams, Chorale president, at 776-5992.
