U.S. Virgin Islands Davis Cup Team Plays in El Salvador

April 23, 2009 – The U.S. Virgin Islands is participating in the Zone IV Davis Cup Competition being held this week in El Salvador. The competition will continue through Sunday, April 26.
The team is comprised of Kristepher Elien, Eugene Highfield, Brian Oldfield and Kemit Lewis. Elien and Highfield have been on the U.S.V.I. Davis Cup team before, while it is the first time for Oldfield and Lewis. Brian Oldfield is the top V.I. junior player and is a senior at Antilles School.
The other teams competing are: Panama, Aruba, Bermuda, Trinidad and Tobago.
The Virgin Islands first match was on Wednesday, April 22, against top-seeded Panama. The V.I. won the tie 2-1. Brian Oldfield played at No. 2 singles and lost 6-0, 6-2. Kristepher Elien played as No. 1 and won 4-6,6-1,6-2. Brian and Kris then teamed up to win the deciding doubles match 7-6 (9), 6-2.
