Public School Registration for 2009-2010 Is Underway

April 17, 2009 – The deadline for parents to register their kindergarten-aged students in the St. Croix District is Friday, May 29. “Appointments are available and preferred when registering students,” says Ferne McAlpin, coordinator of Pupil Personnel Services for the district. “Appointments make the process smoother and reduce congestion and an unpleasant environment for parents and staff.” Registration is conducted from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, at the Office of Pupil Personnel Services located at the Theodora Dunbavin Complex in La Grande Princesse, according to a prèss release from the Department of Education.
“All children born in the year 2004 should be registered now to enter the kindergarten. Registration began in March, and if you are wishing to register a child for placement in kindergarten for the coming school year, we ask that you please do so shortly,” said McAlpin. The following documents must be available at registration time in order to complete and process registration:
1. Original birth certificate
2. V.I. Immunization Card with attached Health Clearance form from the Charles Harwood Clinic
3. Social Security card
4. Proof of physical address – official document showing name and street address (i.e. driver’s license, voter’s ID, WAPA bill)
5. Affidavit of court appointed guardianship if student does not reside with parent(s)
Note:. Parents and guardians are further advised that students will not be registered without the presentation of a V.I. Immunization card with the attached (blue) clearance form issued at the immunization clinic at the Charles Harwood Memorial Hospital. Immunization clearance forms are a mandatory requirement of the registration process and no exceptions will be made.
Parents are further reminded that registration for upper grades (1-12) will take place from May 18 through June 26. The same documents are required in addition to the report card or transcript from the child’s previous school.
