Brief: Bookstore Hosts Mocko Jumbie DVD Launch

April 10, 2009 — A new DVD documentary on an old Caribbean tradition will have its world premiere this weekend in Gallows Bay.
"Mokolution: The Evolution of the Moko Jumbie," will be officially launched at a party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Undercover Books.
"Mokolution" is produced by Willard John of the Guardians of Culture, the group preserving the mocko jumbie tradition in the Virgin Islands. The documentary explains how mocko jumbies originated in Africa and made their journey to the Caribbean.
Copies of the new DVD will be available for the first time at the bookstore. The street outside Undercover Books will be closed off and the Guardians of Culture Moko Jumbies will perform. Food and beverages will be served.
For more information, call the bookstore at 719-1567 or visit the store's website.
