March 5, 2009 — The Carambola Golf Club Little Boys and the Buccaneers Dem Boys will renew their rivalry in the Mongoose Cup on Saturday on Dem Boys home turf at the Buccaneer golf Club.
After a one-year hiatus the teams are eager to get at each other in this friendly annual competition.
The Little Boys are the defending champs after winning 7-5 in 2007, but Dem Boys captain Brad Thomas is confident that his team can return the favor this year.
We were ready to go last year but we had to call off the tournament due to circumstances beyond anyones control, said Thomas. This year, however, Dem Boys are ready to roll and we will let our clubs do the talking beginning on Saturday.
Little Boys team captain John Beagles was just as confident of his team's chances to defend the cup.
Overall our goal is to retain the cup we won in 2007 and above all have fun doing it, said Beagles. We are rather an electric group made up of retirees and those that still slave away in the 9 to 5 grind. We are doctors, hair dressers, bikers, salesmen, mechanics, telephone execs and real estate agents. The only thing that we really have in common is golf. As an outsider one would find that hard to understand, being that in most cases we act like a bunch of fish wives in the market during a Russian motor cycle race in the middle of a Chinese fire drill.
The Match-play event tees off at 11:30 am Saturday with two teams that include the team captains competing against each other. Little Boys captain Beagles and Burt Shepp will go up against Dem Boys captain Thomas and John Smith. The rest of the matches are scheduled as follows:
11:40 Arthur Epstein, Rob Monokian (Little Boys) Andy Galiber, Eddie Lavarini (Dem Boys)
11:50 Jim Kasin, Bobby Goldman (Little Boys) Rich Carey, Rafa Bonnet (Dem Boys)
12:00 Tony Dizon, Rich Thompson (Little Boys) – Keith Krilow, Bob Morgan (Dem Boys)
12:10 Gary SurDyke, Bob Leroux (Little Boys) Ken Croney, Gary (Dem Boys)
12:20 Phil Glengary, Frank Lange (Little Boys) Max Blum, Dave Davis (Dem Boys)
