Feb. 27, 2009 The Virgin Islands Fire Service, St. Croix District, informs the general public that the issuance of burning permits is hereby discontinued in the district. All previously issued burning permits are hereby revoked due to the extended dry weather conditions that St. Croix is currently experiencing. The ban will be in effect from Feb. 27 until further notice, according to a press release from St. Croix District Fire Chief Steve Brow.
Those living in areas prone to brush fires are advised to cut back overgrowth vegetation up to a distance of 40 feet from around structures on their property.
