Feb. 10, 2009 – The St. Croix Landmarks Society presents its 23rd season of Music. Celebrate Valentine's Day with "The Love of Music," part of the Candlelight Concert Series at the Whim Plantation Greathouse, which will feature bass baritone Joe Chappel and pianist Paul Vasile, on Friday, Feb. 13 and Saturday, Feb. 14. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m., and musical selections will include Schubert, Mozart, Ned Rorem et al.
Friday night costs $35 and Saturday is $45, which includes a post-concert artist reception. Boxed dinner on the Lawn from Turtles Deli can be reserved through the Landmarks Society until noon on Friday. In addition, the artists will participate in the Victor Borge Listen and Learn program on Friday afternoon at Island Center for the Performing Arts.

Bass baritone Joe Damon Chappel is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester where he was a William Warfield Scholar. He is the principal bass soloist with Bach Vespers at Holy Trinity in NYC, he has performed with Bachworks, NY Collegium, Early Music New York, Les Gouts-Reunis and the Tiffany Consort. Frequently sought after as a soloist in world premieres of newly written or newly discovered works, in February, he gave the world premiere performance of Joelle Wallach's "Firefighter's Prayer" at Powell Symphony Hall. He will return to the Bollington Festival to perform Porgy in a concert performance of "Porgy and Bess."
Paul Vasile, pianist, presently serves as the Minister of Music at Park Avenue Christian Church in NYC, where he shares his passion for sacred music. Prior, he served as the minister of music at Trinity Presbyterian Church in St. Louis, Missouri, and has served as an organist, choir director and pianist for other congregations in the Northeast. He earned his Master of Music form the Eastman School of Music. As a composer, he has written a substantial amount of liturgical music, including chamber opera, choral works and music for dance. He has served during the last 4 years as composer and musical director for Laude in Urbis, a contemporary adaptation of medieval mystery plays drawn from the English Cycles.
