Governor Extends Sympathies to the Family of Cecile Moorehead

Dec. 30, 2008 – On Monday, Governor John P. deJongh Jr. extended condolences to the family and friends of Cecile Moorehead, the longtime principal of the Joseph Sibilly Elementary School on St. Thomas. Moorehead died on Dec. 25 at the age of 90.
"Simply said, Mrs. Moorehead lived a good life," deJongh said. "I have heard so much from so many people about her contributions to the formal education of many of today's leaders. Clearly she was an institution at the Joseph Sibilly School where she served many years as principal before her retirement almost 30 years ago. And even after countless years in the public education system, she spent many years during her retirement teaching, counseling, tutoring and mentoring our young people."
DeJongh said Moorehead seemed always at the ready to assist any young person in furthering their education or in providing a life lesson. At home, the love and unity displayed each day by the Moorehead and Sibilly families is indicative of the effective skills she possessed as the matriarch of these families.
"My wife, Cecile, joins me in offering our prayers for Mrs. Moorehead's eternal rest. She is now in the hands of her Maker and in the company of the angels and saints," deJongh said.
