New Vibes Wins Its First Region's Title; Positive Vibes Trashes Central Link

Dec. 17, 2008 – After finishing in the second position for the last three seasons, the New Vibes finally dethroned the fourth-time defending champion Positive Vibes to win their first St. Thomas Region title. The New Vibes had to defeat the UWS in their last game to ensure their title win, and they did just that by edging the UWS 3-2 in the early Tuesday night game at the Lionel Roberts Stadium. The New Vibes' Junior Laurencin scored the tiebreaker with minutes left to ensure his team of the championship. Their goal scorers were Brian Charlery and Marlon Wilton while Fitzroy Huggins and Raymond Chetram scored for the UWS.
In the second game–which turned out to be a farce–the Positive Vibes trashed the undermanned Central Link, 20-5. At the start of the game, the Positive Vibes' Keithroy Saddler needed to score 6 goals to win the Region's scoring title. Ably assisted by the inept Central Link defense, Saddler scored the required goals prior to the half. In the highest scoring game in recent memory, he scored 12 goals before coming off in the second half. The other goal scorers for the Positive Vibes–in the match, which probably made a mockery of the sport–were Ferdinand Francis 2 and E. Ebens, Vaughn Samuel, R. Graham, D. Good, C. Mendoza and J. Valnor Lubin. Dolphy Dawson 2 Victor Riviera, Roxroy Groves and Michael St. Felix each scored 1 for the Central Link.
The Region's knockout will resume on Jan. 11.
