Nov. 22, 2008 – Tickets for the "Giving Thanks" concert that will feature Richie Spice are available for purchase from Nov. 17-22, for an early bird price of $25, at Modern Music, International Records and Tapes, Urban Threadz, Island Video (Nisky) and My Day Discount (Smith Bay) on St. Thomas; at Natural Mystic on St. Croix; and at W&W Fast Food on St. John. After Nov. 22, they will cost $30 and even more at the gate. The concert will be held at 9 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 29, at the Lionel Roberts Stadium.
Richie Spice, one of reggae's most prolific artists, is known for hits like "World is a Cycle," "Brown Skin" and "Gideon Boot." He is known for combination of positive lyrics over strong reggae beats. His 2008 release "Gideon Boot" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Reggae Chart in May. Among other recognitions, his song "Youths Dem Cold" was number 29 on Vibe Magazine's "44 Best Songs of 2007."
Richie Spice will be joined by Dezarie, one of reggae's greatest female artists. Her "Eaze the Pain" album was released in April. Ickarus and Smokey B join the line up with their appealing styles of chanting. Ickarus gained popularity as part of the reggae group Starlion Family. He since has begun performing and recording as a solo artist.
The promoters of the concert, Mystic Movement LLC, will partner with HOPE Inc., an HIV/Chronic Disease awareness non-profit organization, to provide a limited number of free concert tickets to people who take advantage of their free HIV/AIDS screenings. Anyone who receives free HIV testing from HOPE Inc. up to Nov. 25 will be entered into a drawing to receive free concert tickets. The drawing will be held on Nov. 26. As per HOPE Inc. privacy policy, all participants will remain anonymous.
