Congressional Black Caucus Gives Christensen Leadership Post

Nov. 19, 2008 — Members of the Congressional Black Caucus on Wednesday elected Delegate Donna M. Christensen the group's second vice chair.
The congresswoman will being serving in the role in January, when the 111th Congress convenes.
"She will become a part of the leadership team that carries out the mandate of the CBC as the 'conscience of the Congress' in all areas of public policy, from health to education to economic development to housing," according to a news release from Christensen's office.
Christensen was elected along with the new chair, Rep. Barbara Lee of California; first vice chair, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver of Missouri; secretary, Rep. G.K. Butterfield of North Carolina; and whip; Yvette Clarke of New York.
"It is a great honor for me to serve as part of the leadership of the CBC as we move into an historic period, where one of our members, the honorable Barack Obama, becomes president of the United States of America," Christensen said. "We look forward to working with him to advance an agenda that will encompass the important concerns of all Americans, from urban to rural to island communities."
