Nov. 5, 2008 – Caribbean Community Theatre will hold auditions at 7 p.m., on Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 11 and 12, for "Evita," the rock musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. Auditions will be held at the theater, No. 18 Estate Orange Grove, Christiansted.
The musical will be directed By Eileen Bishop Des Jardins and Lorraine Durand, with music direction by Kathleen Dodge-DeHaven. Performance dates will be at 8 p.m., on Fridays and Saturdays, Feb. 6-28, with a Sunday matinee at 4 p.m., Feb. 15.
CCT is looking for strong singers and dancers who should come prepared to sing a song in a style and with a vocal range appropriate to the role for which they intend to audition. A list of characters follows:
Eva Peron (age 25-35; female) Charismatic actress/singer/dancer. Must play age range from 15-33 throughout the course of the play. Vocal range: Mezzo, low E below middle C to high F. May be asked to sing "What's New, Buenos Aires" or "I'd Be Surprisingly Good for You."
Che Guevara (age 30-45; male) The narrator/commentator, a volatile male with a high, rock tenor voice. He is passionate, impulsive, jealous, manipulative. Must have the stamina and endurance to play this demanding role. Vocal range: rock tenor, low A to high Bb. May be asked to sing "And the Money Kept Rolling In."
Juan Peron (age 35-50; male) Army colonel who becomes president of Argentina. Stately, charismatic, charming and authoritative. Vocal range: Baritone, low Bb to high F#. May be asked to sing "She Is a Diamond" or "I'd Be Surprisingly Good for You."
Magaldi (age 35-45; male) A tango singer, a suave crooner. Also will take part in the ensemble numbers. Vocal range: Tenor, middle C to high G. May be asked to sing "On This Night of a Thousand Stars" or "Eva, Beware of the City."
The mistress (age 18-25; female) An innocent young woman who plays Peron's mistress. This role will also be in the ensemble. Vocal range: Mezzo, low A to E. May be asked to sing "Another Suitcase in Another Hall."
Ensemble (age 17-60) Mix of men and women who can sing and dance. All roles except Eva, Che and Peron will be filled from the ensemble. An ensemble number from the show will be taught at auditions.
Youth ensemble (age 10-15) Girls and/or boy sopranos. An ensemble number from the show will be taught at auditions.
