Brief: Government Issues Guidelines for Omar Debris Disposal

Oct. 17, 2008 — Public Works Commissioner Darryl Smalls and Waste Management Authority Executive Director May Adams Cornwall on Friday issued guidelines for disposing of hurricane-related waste on St. Croix:
— Residents can use the four major bin sites on St. Croix for green waste or yard waste disposal at this time, but are asked to deposit their waste in the designated area as directed by the site spotter. These sites are Concordia, Mon Bijou, Peter’s Rest and Cotton Valley.
— Household waste will continue to be placed in the bins, and the waste is not to be mixed.
— All scrap metal is to be taken directly to the Anguilla Landfill for disposal.
The designated area at Estate Slob is only for the collection of yard or green waste being collected by the Department of Public Works and its respective contractors. This area is not for use by the general public for debris disposal.
