Miss Urban Teenz Begins Competition with Fourteen Contestants

Oct. 10, 2008 – The Miss Urban Teenz and Miss Urban Teenz Princess Contests have chosen the contestants who will vie for titles. The 14 contestants will make many public appearances, beginning with the beach clean-up held from 7-9 a.m., on Monday, Oct. 13, at Dorsch Beach, Frederiksted.
The competition is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6, at Island Center for the Performing Arts. Lu Celania Sierra, noted international model and the official runway coach for the Miss USA and Miss Universe Pageants, will be present.
The contestants will participate in a workshop from 5-7 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 8 with Sierra at Cruzan Dance Center. The scholarship competition pageant was created for the sole purpose of educating young women beyond the limitations of learning about culture, traditions and history. The idea of Miss Urban Teenz was fashioned by Alex E. Simon, founder and artistic director of Cruzan Dance Company Inc.
Prizes total well over $10,000, and the winners will have the opportunity to travel to Paris, and participate in a photo shoot, win a laptop computer, a portable DVD player, an ipod nano, the signature Urban Teenz jewelry collection, a $5,000 college scholarship, and more.
