Governor Proclaims Family Involvement Month

Oct. 1, 2008 – Gov. John P. DeJongh Jr. has proclaimed the month of October as Family Involvement Month in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Family involvement in a child's learning is critical to a student's success in school and college, and is key in attaining a good job. Creating an environment where learning takes place not just in the classroom but becomes a central part of family life that requires parents to play a more active role in their children's education.
The role of parents in creating a successful pre-school through college education system for each V.I. child cannot be overstated. Research indicates that there is a direct correlation between high student achievement, and the high expectations and positive contributions of parents.
The V.I. Parental Involvement Resource Center Network is available to assist families with ideas for getting more involved in the education and development of young students.
Gov. deJongh calls upon resident of the territory to join with him in these observances and to participate in scheduled activities.
