DOH Hosts Lecture on Vaccines for Healthcare Providers

Sept. 30, 2008 – The Department of Health's Immunization Program will host a dinner and lecture on immunizations for pediatric and adolescent health care providers territory-wide.
The dinner and lecture, entitled "Immunization Update: Menactra, Tdap, Rotavirus and Pediatric Flu Vaccines," will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 6, at Marriott's Frenchman's Reef Beach Resort on St. Thomas. It will also be held from 6:30-9:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Divi Carina Bay Resort on St. Croix, according to a press release from Health Commissioner Vivian I. Ebbesen-Fludd.
Dr. Andrew Kroger, a representative with the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is the guest speaker.
Gail Jackson, territorial director for the department's immunization program, said the event is intended to update healthcare providers on four recommended vaccines, with the goal of improving these vaccine-specific immunization rates in the territory.
"Increased immunization coverage will protect the Virgin Islands' children and community by preventing the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases," Jackson said.
These events are by invitation only due to limited seating. Pediatric and adolescent health care professionals as well as providers of the Vaccine for Children (VFC) Program have been invited to attend.
