Unity Coalition Celebrates National Night Out

Sept. 24, 2008 – St. Croix Unity Coalition Inc. will celebrate Virgin Islands Night Out 2008 on at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 1. There will be a march in the Grove Place area beginning at 6 p.m., so everyone is encouraged to line up for it at 5:30 p.m., at Isaac Boyens Park. After the march there will be a softball game at the Isaac Boyens Park between a community team and law enforcement officers.
National Night Out 2007 involved 35.4 million people in 11,310 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. This year is expected to be the largest ever. The event is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch in partnership with Target.
This is a year-long community building campaign designed to heighten crime prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals to let them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
