Driver Killed Early Sunday Identified as Teenager

Aug. 25, 2008 — Police have identified the driver of a vehicle killed during a weekend car crash on St. Croix as 16-year-old Richard G. Rodriquez.
The accident occurred around 4 a.m. Sunday along the Melvin Evans Highway in the vicinity of Clifton Hill. Rodriquez, whose name was released Monday by police, was driving a 1992 Geo Prism and lost control of the wheel, causing the car to run over the southern edge of the road, hit the side of a hill and overturn. Rodriquez, a resident of No. 22 Old Fredensberg Village, was killed in the crash, and two passengers were injured.
An 18-year-old passenger had lacerations to his right hand, the right side of his neck, his right hip and shoulder. A 17-year-old passenger suffered trauma to his head and chest, and is expected to be transported off island for further treatment.
An investigation is ongoing by police to determine whether Rodriquez was speeding or driving while impaired.
