IYWCM to Host Annual Backpack Campaign

Aug. 19, 2008 – For some, this time of year can be quite daunting as they consider how they'll be able to afford the essential supplies for the school year. For the past four years, Impacting Your World Christian Ministries (IYWCM) has been providing assistance to children of the Virgin Islands community so that they can start the school year off right. At 11 a.m., on Sunday, Aug. 24, it will be hosting its Fourth Annual Back to School Backpack Campaign, immediately following the 9 a.m. service. The backpacks will be distributed at the church, located at No. 171 Altona (next to Prime Foods).
The church has traditionally donated backpacks filled with school supplies to the children of incarcerated inmates and other disadvantaged youths throughout the community. This year, it has chosen to provide assistance to the children of two community-based organizations: the Nana's Baby Children's Home and Kidscope Inc. Since its inception, the program has provided over 150 backpacks filled with school supplies to the children.
"Children are our most valuable resource and they are our future," said Gerald McDonald, pastor of IYWCM. "We believe that if we can impact some area of their lives, they can go on to achieve greater things. It is a tremendous blessing to be able to reach out to help those who are in need."
