Education Schedules Series of HR Sessions for New Hires

Aug. 7, 2008 – The Virgin Islands Department of Education has scheduled a series of human resource activities to include orientations and diversity trainings for new personnel leading up to the opening of the 2008-2009 school year, according to a press release from Education Human Director Alscess Lewis-Brown.
"The department has scheduled full-scale orientations, which will educate and familiarize our new hires with the community's organization, V.I. public safety and child protection laws, local banking, government and agency personnel policies and procedures, payroll and business office procedures, AFT rules and regulations, health care program benefits, employees' obligations to the Government Employees' Retirement System (GERS) and other available benefits. Additionally, representatives from various community businesses, agencies and organizations will make presentations that will assist our new residents to acclimate smoothly," Lewis-Brown said.
The orientations are scheduled as follows:
St. Croix: Wednesday, Aug. 13 – Human Resources Offices located at No. 10 Vitraco Mall, Christiansted
St. Thomas: Thursday, Aug. 14 – Addelita Cancryn Junior High School located at No. 1 Crown Bay
Both sessions begin promptly at 8 a.m.
The diversity trainings are scheduled as follows:
St. Croix: Monday, Aug. 18 – Human Resources Offices located at No. 10 Vitraco Mall, Christiansted
St. Thomas: Tuesday, Aug. 19 – Addelita Cancryn Junior High School located at No. 1 Crown Bay.
Both sessions run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The HR director added that all newly hired teachers and other Education personnel, who have not yet received a formal orientation, are encouraged to take part in the scheduled programs.
She also announced that all international teachers are asked to attend a very important meeting in their respective district, which will be held to discuss any issues or concerns that they might have prior to the beginning of the school year. The meetings are scheduled as follows:
St. Croix – Monday, Aug. 18 – 1 p.m. at the Human Resources Offices located at No. 10 Vitraco Mall, Christiansted
St. Thomas – Tuesday, Aug. 19 – 1 p.m. at the Addelita Cancryn Junior High School located at no. 1 Crown Bay.
