Church Youth Have Rummage Sale to Raise Mission Funds

Aug. 7, 2008 – The youth group at the St. Thomas Reformed Church will hold a rummage sale at the Fort Christian Parking Lot from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturday, Aug. 16. This is one of the many fundraisers that will be held during the next few months to raise monies for the church's annual mission project.
The Mission Project gives 25-35 young people from the St. Thomas community the opportunity to travel abroad and help underprivileged communities. In the past the young people have helped in a New Your City soup kitchens for the homeless, built homes and churches, and dug trenches to bring water to villagers in the Dominican Republic. Each student, who all come from high schools on St. Thomas, is responsible for raising a minimum of $1200, which goes to his or her travel expenses and the purchase of building supplies that are used to build houses and pay for food and medicines they take to the villagers.
