Dear Source:
The Virgin Islands Government has again disregarded the objections to outlandish development schemes by the citizens of another St. John community and approved the construction of the Bordeaux Mountain Villas. I have serious reservations about the feasibility of this project given: 1.The inadequate sewage treatment capability of the system proposed, 2. The inability of WAPA to provide power of the magnitude required by these condominiums on a single-phase primary feeder, 3. The capability of any contractor to keep the potential danger of falling debris from affecting the environment below the site, and 4. Disturbing the peace and tranquility of the immediate area with the machinery that will be required to excavate the area for the foundations necessary to build these structures.
It appears to me that DPNR is bowing to the pressure being brought to bear by this builder to permit this project while ignoring the residents of the immediate neighborhood who have voiced their opposition to the project for very valid reasons.
This is an another example of the development travesty plaguing St. John that is been pursued by very wealthy individuals who do not care about the neighborhoods they build in. I would imagine that any of the owners, architects, or potential unit owners of this project, as well as those involved in the Sirenusa and Grande Bay condominium projects, would vigorously oppose any similar plans for the same development near their own homes.
