One Dead in Hospital Ground Shooting

July 16, 2008 — Three persons of interest have been picked up by police and are being questioned about the shooting death of 30-year-old Dwayne Lynch, killed late Wednesday afternoon in the upper part of Hospital Ground.
Police might make one or more arrests late Wednesday evening or early Thursday morning, according to the district's deputy police chief, Melvin Venzen.
"The deceased (Lynch) was being pursued by another vehicle in the upper part of Hospital Ground — around the area of the Turnbull Apartments or higher," Venzen said. "He was trying to evade his pursuer but collided into another vehicle, causing an accident. The deceased then ran out of his vehicle. The suspect also got out of his car and fired several shots about the deceased's body."
Lynch was transported to Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment but died of his wounds around 6:03 p.m. Wednesday, Venzen said.
Police subsequently picked up three "persons of interest" near the Western Cemetery.
"We have recovered the vehicle involved in the chase and are right now processing evidence and continuing questioning the three persons of interest," Venzen said.
