Sylvester Scores 20 in Legacy’s Blowout Win

July 2, 2008 — Kyle Sylvester scored a game-high 20 points and Legacy used a stifling defense to blow out Dread Eyes 82-58 Tuesday night in the Continental Basketball Association summer league.
Rakeem Christmas added 16 points with four rebounds and four blocks for Legacy, and Lamar Bough had 13 points with three assists and three steals.
Kareem Greenidge was the only Dread Eyes player in double figures, and he finished with 16 points.
The game at the Educational Complex Gymnasium saw Legacy turn up the defensive pressure with a full-court press in the second quarter that completely unraveled the Dread Eyes and blew a relatively close game wide open.
Legacy had a three-point lead at 13-10 at the end of the first quarter, but Legacy’s coach, Donald Bough, called for the full-court defense to start the second quarter and it quickly proved to be very effective against the slower Dread Eyes squad. Led by Belle’s nine second-quarter points, Legacy outscored its opponent 33-16 in the period to grab a commanding 20-point lead heading into the locker room. At 43-26, the rout was on.
Legacy’s lead would swell to more than 30 points in the second half before Coach Bough called off the dogs and cleared his bench. Dread Eyes did not fare much better against the bench, as they could get no closer than 24 points for the rest of the game.
One thing must be said of Dread Eyes: Although they were getting outplayed in every aspect of the game, they never stopped playing hard. Also it is evident that they have a lot of talent on the team, but there is too much individualism. This leads to a serious lack of team chemistry. They have now fallen to 0-2 on the season, but if these guys ever get it together, they are going to surprise a lot of people.
