The League of Women Voters of the Virgin Islands will be co-hosting the Alternative Energy Forum to discuss alternative and/or renewable energy options for the territory. It will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on Saturday, June 28. The venues have been changed from the UVI's Chase Auditorium to the UVI Administration and Conference Center, first floor, on St. Thomas. It will now be teleconferenced to UVI's Evans Center, room 401, St. Croix campus. It is open to the general public.
The purpose of the forum is to discuss ways V.I. residents and businesses can lower their energy needs and reduce costs, as well as what can be done at the government and the university levels to evaluate alternative sources of energy suitable to the V.I.
The panel will include Bevan Smith Jr., director of the V.I. Energy Office; Hugo Hodge Jr., CEO of WAPA; Senator Louis P. Hill; Onaje Jackson, president and founder of Sustainable Systems & Designs International; and Craig Barshinger, community activist and former senator-at-large.
The forum is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of the V.I, UVI's Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research, the Virgin Islands Conservation Society, the St. Croix Environmental Association, the Environmental Association of St. Thomas and AARP.
