June 20, 2008 – Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen announced that two students from the Seventh-day Adventist School on St. Thomas have been selected to participate in this year's annual National African American Youth Initiative Program. Derron Callwood and Nicole Grant have been chosen to represent the Virgin Islands in Washington, D.C. from June 20-30. On Thursday, June 26, Delegate Christensen will host the scholars on Capitol Hill and will be joined by her Congressional Black Caucus colleagues.
NAAYI was developed to expose high school students to careers in health care. The program's goal is to motivate and encourage the young African-American participants to remain in the academic pipeline and to pursue jobs in the scientific and health arenas.
Congratulations are extended to Nicole and Derron on being selected for such a competitive and outstanding program.
For additional information, contact the delegate's office in Washington, D.C. at 202-225-1790.
