Rotary Club Offers Alternatives to Violence Workshop

June 13, 2008 – Rotary Club of St. Thomas Sunrise will host a three-day basic workshop on the Alternatives to Violence Project. It will be held from 6-9 p.m., on Friday, June 27; 9-6 p.m., on Saturday, June 28; and 1-5 p.m., on Sunday, June 29. All sessions will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation, 149 Anna's Retreat (775-1022).
The workshop is highly experiential and uses a series of time proven exercises to teach skills of non-violent conflict resolution. Specifically, the focus is on:
Affirmation: the building of self-esteem and trust
Communication: improving listening skills and assertive methods of expression
Cooperation: attitudes that avoid competitive conflicts.
Community: learning to build community within a diverse society
Creative Conflict Resolution: the inner "transforming power" to resolve violence
This approach, with hundreds of volunteers, is now used in nearly all of the states in the U.S.A. and over 40 other countries in communities, schools and prisons.
Registration is $40 in advance, $50 at the door.
For questions, contact Judy Gumbs at 690-0695 or Nycole Thompson at 277-7037.
