Man Charged in Death After Car Accident and Ensuing Argument

June 11, 2008 – A 22-year-old man from Estate St. John was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with second-degree murder after an argument over a traffic accident that ended with the death of another man.
Jeremy Davis Cheiuk was arrested at 7:26 a.m. at his home in Estate St. John and charged with second-degree murder in the death of Dale Hendricks, a 29-year-old Golden Rock resident, police spokeswoman Melody Rames said. The incident occurred around 3:58 a.m. Wednesday.
The two men were involved in a minor traffic accident that escalated into an altercation, Rames said in a news release. Witnesses told police they heard an argument between the two men. One witness tried intervening but before he could, Cheiuk punched Hendricks, causing him to fall to the ground, Rames said. Cheiuk continued to assault the victim while he was on the ground, then fled, she said.
Hendricks was pronounced dead at the scene by Medical Examiner Michele DuPre, Francis said.
Detectives from the V.I. Police Investigation Bureau later went to Cheiuk's Estate St. John address and arrested him, according to Rames.
Acting Police Commissioner Novelle Francis Jr. said his office is awaiting an autopsy report to determine the exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, Cheiuk is being held at Golden Grove Prison on $150,000 bail.
