Results of the 2008 Caribbean Surf Co. Carnival Mile

April 28, 2008 – A total of 103 walkers, runners and joggers participated in the 26th Annual Carnival Mile, a healthy contribution to the Carnival celebration. Each finisher received a Carnival Mile T-shirt sponsored by the Caribbean Surf Company and Katherine S. Gibson, CPA. West Indies Corporation provided water and Gatorade for the event. Awards were presented to the top male and female, and to the first, second and third place finishers in seven age categories.
Age categories were named on behalf of the individual, business or organization that sponsored the trophies for that age group and included Jackie Nelthrop, Total Camp Experience, DH Printery, Jackson Complex Wellness Center and Roy Watlington.
The overall winner was 16-year-old Mackenzie Shaw. His father, Randy Shaw, physical education teacher at Joseph Gomez Elementary, finished third in the STAR Founders 50 – 59 Mile, and his grandmother, 85-year-old Rachel Shaw, finished first in the Mario Watlington 60-and-Over Mile.
Last year's winner, Ruth Ann David, won the female division and finished third overall.
Special thanks to the Department of Public Safety, the V.I. Civil Air Patrol and St. Thomas Rescue for their support.
The event raised over $900 for the American Red Cross of the Virgin Islands.
