Fire Service Places Ban on Burning Permits

April 15, 2008 – The Virgin Islands Fire Service, St. Croix District, informs the public that the issuance of burning permits is hereby discontinued in the district. All previously issued burning permits are hereby revoked due to the extended dry weather conditions that the island is currently experiencing. The burning ban will be in effect from April 14 until further notice, according to a press release from the V.I. Fire Services.
Individuals living in areas prone to brush fires are advised to cut back overgrowth vegetation up to a distance of 40 feet from around structures on their property.
