Friends of Library Sponsor April Events

April 12, 2008 – Friends of the Florence Williams Public Library sponsor four events for the month of April. All of them emphasize the joy of literature and reading. Florence Williams Library, 1122 King Street, Christiansted.

Thursday April 17 – The Florence Williams Public Library will celebrate National Teen Literature Day with a special event in The Little Theatre beginning at 3:45 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for students who participated in The Teen Picks Book Review Contest. Graffitti Street will perform at 4 p.m. with a special show.
Saturday, April 19 – There will be a block party at the Florence Williams Public Library from 10-3 p.m. Activities include: story telling, a performance of "The Book Worm" by Good Hope School, the John Woodson Junior High Pan Band, the Quadrille Dancers from Pearl B. Larsen, the St. Mary's Pan Band, Pearl B. Larsen Sabrositas, a book sale, bookmobile, face painting and animal balloons.
Saturday, April 19 – From 1-2:30 p.m., there will be a panel discussion, "Connecting with Your Library," moderated by Edgar Lake. Guests include George Tyson, Wayne James and Prof. Marvin Williams, who will discuss how the libraries have influenced their lives and careers.
Saturday, April 19 – "Poetry @ Your LIbrary" presents A Poets' Reunion. From 7-9 p.m., former participants in "Poetry @ Your Library" are particularly encouraged to come, but new comers are welcome as well. Open mic for anyone who wishes to read his or her own poetry, or someone else's poetry. Refreshment will be provided. The MC will be Edgar Lake.
