April 10, 2008 — Karen Hodge has been named vice president for facilities management and capital development for Schneider Regional Medical Center. Hodge has been performing in the position for 13 months after taking over the duties when Daryl Smalls left the center to become Public Works commissioner.
She was chosen, according to a release from SRMC, from among seven candidates interviewed during a local and national search, which Schneider President Amos Carty began conducting upon assuming office last fall.
Carty said he was impressed with Hodges ability, technical expertise, and general knowledge of the facility. I believe it is very important that the person in this position possess the overall ability to manage the unique challenges of this facility, Carty said, Hodge had been a director under Smalls since 2003. She said, in the release, she learned a lot from him and was allowed to learn, which has made this move a lot easier.
Hodge will oversee security, transportation, housekeeping, laundry, communications, physical plant maintenance, and construction.
Carty said the Hodge appointment is consistent with the employment philosophy of the governing board and management of Schneider Medical Center, which supports promoting internally, as long as it is balanced with the commitment to find the best candidate. Karen Hodge happens to be internal, Carty said, but most importantly, she is the best person, and we should all be proud of that. Hodges appointment is the final one for the SRMC senior leadership team.
