Elmo Plaskett East Little League Weekend Roundup

April 7, 2008 — On Saturday, there were two 10-12 age-group games in the Elmo Plaskett East Little League at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park. The Dodgers blanked the Angels 12-0 in game one and the Suns edged the Reds 4-3 in game two.
Dodgers 12, Angels 0
D'ondre Simmonds pitched a two-hit shutout to lead the Dodgers over the Angels 12-0. The Dodgers had 12 runs on 10 hits with two errors, while the Angels had no runs on two hits with three errors. Evanson Matthew got the loss for the Angels. Top hitters for the Dodgers were Simmonds, 3 for 4 with one RBI, and Jahkyl John, 1 for 1 with two RBIs. For the Angels, Pedro Gonzalez went 1 for 1 and Akeem Reefer went 1 for 2.
Sun 4, Reds 3
Nyaib Gonzales blasted a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to give the Suns the lead for good as they edged the Reds 4-3. Steven Rodriguez's two-run in-the-park home run had given the Reds a one-run lead in the top of the inning, but it did not last long as Gonzales delivered the big hit in the bottom of the inning.
Gonzales then went to the mound in relief of Suns starter Christopher Joseph to try to close out the game. The Reds did manage one run, but it was not enough. The Suns ended up with four runs on three hits with two errors, while the Reds had three runs on five hits and committed three errors.
Joseph got the win for the Suns, while Kevin Depuis got the loss for the Reds. Top hitters for the Suns were Gonzales, 1 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs, and Devante Brooks, 1 for 2 with one RBI. For the Reds, who outhit the Suns 5-3, Rodriguez went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs and Saulo Saldana went 2 for 3 with one RBI.
Reds 9, Lil' Alphas 4
One game on Sunday in the 7-9 division saw the Reds defeat the Lil' Alphas, 9-4. The Reds had nine runs on one hit with three errors, while the Lil' Alphas had four runs on two hits and committed two errors.
