Virgin Islands National Park Superintendent Mark Hardgrove wishes to thank all community members, groups and organizations that participated in coast-weeks clean-up, as well as those who have made a commitment to clean certain areas. These clean-up events were supported by Friends of VI National Park, EPA, UVI's VI Marine Advisory Service, VI Coastal Zone Management Program, and VI Waste Management Authority, and the National Park Service.
Coast-weeks kicked off on September 15, 2007, and continued for a three weeks. During that time, members in the community banded together to remove and document the type of debris found along the coastline, both within and outside the Park boundary.
Many groups and individuals on St. John participated in the clean-up activities this year, and covered areas on either sides of the Island. Included were Connections, Coral Bay Community Council, Fraser Drummond, Friends of VI National Park, Holiday Homes, Maho Bay Camps, St. John Land Sharks, St. John School on Gift Hill, Guy Benjamin School, Julius E. Spruave School, Skinny Legs, and St. John Rotary.
Superintendent Hardgrove would like to extend his appreciation to all, hope for an enthusiastic and great turn out next year.
