Miss Anna's Takes 1st Prize in Hot Sauce Competition

Nov. 15, 2007 — Miss Anna’s Hot Pepper Sauce, a recipe that dates back over 100 years and four generations, won first place in the Authentic Caribbean Hot Sauce category during the 2008 Scovie Awards, which recognize top fiery food products from around the globe.
Miss Anna's Hot Pepper Sauce is made by Crucian Sauces, LLC, of Christiansted.
In rigorous blind tastings, a panel of culinary experts sampled hundreds of the world’s most lauded gourmet foods, and the top scoring products each won a coveted Scovie banner. Some 783 products from around the world competed for top honors.
The Scovie Awards were created by Dave DeWitt, editor of Fiery-Foods & BBQ Magazine and founder of the National Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show. The awards are named for Wilbur Scoville, who pioneered a rating scale for spicy foods, and they have become the industry standard for excellence in more than 60 categories of fiery foods.
"Every year, I am increasingly impressed with the diversity and quality of the products entered in the Scovie Awards," notes Dave DeWitt, dubbed by the New York Times as the "Pope of Peppers" and the author of over 30 books on fiery cuisines. "Our winners this year include not only great product diversity, but geographic diversity as well. This year, our winners represent companies from 32 states and four countries."
Miss Anna's grandfather, a fisherman from St. Lucia, came up with the recipe over 100 years ago to liven up fish dishes, according to missannashotsauce.com.
. Her mother taught Miss Anna how to hand-craft a consistent batch of sauce with a combination of habanero peppers, Caribbean curry, local spices and mustard.
The cabin on the bottle's label is a depiction of her grandfather's cabin on St. Lucia as remembered by her family.
