Art Show Continues at YHG; Mango Tango Expands

Nov. 13, 2007 – Art for the 21st Century, an exhibition by Lucinda Schutt-O' Connell, continues at the Yacht Haven Marina reception area until Dec. 14. The show celebrates her dynamic exploration of abstraction.
The opening night was a well-attended event. Gallery co-owner Jane Coombes observed that this was the first time in 18 years the gallery had set up a show off the premises of the gallery. The marina's reception office space is perfect for solo shows, and there will be a new show each month through May.
Gallery co-owner Smokey Pratt said, "Because of our many shows at Mango Tango on Raphune Hill and the fact that we are adding a second location in Yacht Haven Grande, a few patrons were confused as to the location of the show. The monthly solo shows will be in the marina's headquarters next to the Customs Office. It is the first building waterside in the marina."
Mango Tango Art Gallery will open in Yacht Haven Grande in late December, and the new 1200 square-feet location will be called Mango Tango Seaside Art Gallery. It will be located in the building that houses the Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Shop and Chico's. Mango Tango on Raphune Hill will continue operations, including picture framing and the sale of museum quality reproduction furniture, in addition to the sale of fine art.
The Raphune Hill location will add Hillside to its name, and each month there will be a show at one of the galleries, as well as the intimate solo shows in the marina reception area.
As Schutt-O' Connell's art sells during the month, new works will replace those sold. "Banana Dance," one of the evening's favorites, will now grace the walls of the new Merchants Commercial Bank in Port of Sale.
Only one print was made of another painting of note, "Rush Hour." The evening included a free raffle of that print, which was won by Nora Chapman.
