Basketball Federation Hosts Coaching Clinic

Nov. 7, 2007 – The Virgin Islands Basketball Federation will be hosting a Level 1 Basketball Coaches Clinic from Thursday, Nov. 15 through Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Department of Education Curriculum Center on St. Croix. The clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, and all participants are expected to attend each day in order to successfully complete the course.
The course is being conducted by the International Basketball Federation of the Americas (FIBA Americas) and will provide a Level 1 certification for candidates that successfully complete it. Instructors will come from the FIBA's regional Basketball Academy, namely Prof. Edwin Peña and coach Daryn Freedman, a member of the Five-Star camp. Peña has been involved in training and certifying in the Americas region for the past 10 years, while coach Freedman joined Five-Star in August of 2007, after serving on the staff of Duquesne University.
The clinic is being presented in conjunction with the V.I. Department of Tourism and Basketball Travelers Inc., and all interested participants should contact La Verne Joseph at 712-2320 by Monday, Nov. 12.
