Nov. 1, 2007 – The United States Marine Corps held its 32nd annual marathon in Washington, D.C. The United States Marshals Service, the district of the Virgin Islands, was represented for the second time by Supervisory Deputy Conrad R. Hoover of St. Croix.
Hoover completed the grueling 26.2-mile course with a time of 4:34:02, bettering his last years time by approximately 17 minutes. He is no stranger to hard work and dedication in preparation of such an event for he has trained diligently, participated in and competed in the St. Croix "Iron Man" competition twice.
United States Marshal James M. Sullivan complemented Hoover for the dedication and the fortitude it takes to constantly prepare and train for such events as these. Hoover's participation in the marathon is a positive reflection upon the U.S. Marshals Service and the U.S.V.I.
"The Marine Corps Marathon continues a combined tradition of dedication, sportsmanship and patriotism. Since its inception in 1976, over 320,000 civilian and military runners from every state and more than 55 countries have participated, deservingly earning the event its nickname: "The People's Marathon."
