Alert: VIWMA Closing Several Bin Sites

Oct. 29, 2007 – The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) has removed the solid waste collection bins that service the Cassi Hill and Anna's Retreat residential area.
Due to construction by the property owner, this bin site is no longer accessible or safe and its use has been discontinued, a release late Sunday night from VIWMA said. Residents are asked to use nearby bin sites while an evaluation of an alternative service is completed. "We invite your input and suggestion regarding alternative services including locations to spot a bin," the release said.
Meanwhile, the bins that service the Dorothea residential area will be removed Nov. 3. Residents are asked to use neighboring bin sites, such as Caret Bay and Crown Mountain A town meeting for residents affected by this closure will be held on at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the Hull Bay Hideaway.
VIWMA continues to encourage residents to reduce waste volume by compacting or condensing waste to allow for maximum volume in the bins. They also said owners of residential buildings housing four or more apartments are reminded that per V.I. Law, they are required to provide waste removal for their tenants through a private hauler.
For more information, contact VIWMA's Solid Waste Division at 776-7971 on St. Thomas.
