Precious Cargo

Dear Source:

My wife and I had the opportunity to be in the presence of heroes Sunday.
We and three other couples just completed 10 days of exploring the VI and happened to be in the terminal waiting for our return trip home. Hearing the announcement over the PA system that our arriving Delta plane had a most precious cargo of returning soldiers, everyone in the terminal scurried for a better vantage point.
We all watch as VIP's and local media greeted the soldiers, all snapping a salute, some kneeling to kiss the tarmac. As the soldiers walked along the glass partition, those of us inside erupted into applause. I don't know if they could hear us, but I feel confident they saw us as they walked by. There was not a dry eye in the terminal. For a moment, my chest burst with pride as I watched those who offered all and remembered those who gave all to allow the rest of us to travel freely and enjoy the fruits of freedom. God Bless the Virgin Islands. God Bless America.
