Bill Cosby and Dr. Poussaint are on Larry King right now. Come On, People!
Nationwide we are taking off our shoes and belts and watches and medications and lighters in airports while the TSA is stealing stuff out of our checked bags while our kids are struggling to learn, killing each other, robbing us, not learning in school, having babies they can't care for while illegal aliens coming through unprotected borders are taking our jobs, absorbing costly medical care and all community services while the Republicans and I'm sure some Democrats want to enlarge their voter base by giving illegals drivers licenses.
A patient of mine had a stroke several years ago in his 30s. No insurance at his low-paying job. Was in the hospital a few weeks on our taxpayers' tab. Couldn't afford meds for his hypertension. That's what caused the stroke and made him unable to support his family.
I got him Social Security Disability benefits and he went on with his life. Last week he walked a block, using his cane, to buy his kids some chicken for supper. He had ten bucks in his pocket. He spent five bucks for the chicken and some slaw. Had five bucks left in his pocket. He was surrounded by some kids with a gun while limping home to feed his family.
"Give us your money!"
"Hey, here's all the money I have. Please don't hurt me!"
They took the five bucks, shot him in the gut and left him for dead on the street. All for five bucks!
I'm not sure if they took the fried chicken and slaw. Probably. Then they had five bucks to buy some beer or rum! Good time for them.
Fortunately, my patient was left to die just a few blocks from the hospital and he survived after emergency surgery thanks to the wonderful response of the EMTs and the expert hospital staff.
Today, the Legislature decided things were just fine in the Department of Education and denied confirmation of the Governor's choice of Commissioner. Almost unanimous. Good move guys!
Things are so fine in Education that we can send millions of unneeded dollars back to Washington each year.
Kids with guns are on the streets. In the last week, a man was robbed and shot at in Cane Bay by youths with guns with poor aim. Sprat Net was robbed in Cane Bay by youths with guns and a local physician was robbed in the Sunny Isle Medical Center while trying to get from his car to his office.
Is no one in charge around here?
I and my wife are actually afraid for the first time in 20 years. I don't know a drop-out kid who can get me a gun.
Come on People! Our good Governor and Bill Cosby are trying to improve education. I guess a Senator needs to get shot before someone pays attention. So sad.
R.L. Bucher, M.D.
