Support the Governor; Support Reform

Dear Source:
I would like to comment on the selection of Dr. Spampinato as the nominee for the Department of Education. Many views here on the Source and other media formats seem to be in favor of the Governors' selection to head this department and I agree with most. Again I urge that reform is needed in the educational system from all sides of the spectrum from the board of education, the department of education, parents and teachers. Education reform is needed on all levels. I and most of the public voted for Governor John P. deJongh, Jr. in office by a wide margin from the primary election to the general election and then the subsequent run off election. The Governor has expended some political capital, time and energy to see that his selection may head the largest department of the VI in the past few months. Why not give him a chance to succeed during his first term in office with his selection?
As a district member of the VI Democratic Party I urge my members and public to vote in favor of his nominee and for all involved to work on the Governors plans for education as outlined in his platform. Members of the 27 Legislature I urge you to vote in favor of Dr. Spampinato with a favorable recommendation and to continue to improve education in the VI.
