Special Education Hosts Parent Empowerment Conference

Oct. 17, 2007 – Parents and all interested stakeholders are advised of the Fifth Annual Parent Empowerment Conference. It is being sponsored by the State Office of Special Education in collaboration with Virgin Islands Family Information Network on Disabilities and the Virgin Islands Center for Excellence on Developmental Disabilities.
This year's conference, titled "Working Together to Weave Positive Attitudes for the Future," will be held at 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Holiday Inn/Windward Passage Hotel on St. Thomas. Registration will begin at 8 a.m.
The keynote speakers will be Jazz and Lynley Summers, authors on autism spectrum disorders; Dr. Claudia Schrader, who wrote "It Takes a Village;" and John Kramer, who will speak on sibling issues, according to a press release from the Office of Special Education.
Children are welcomed to attend the program with their parents, and there will be door prizes and refreshments.
