Code 9 Blasts Suns 21-2

Oct. 13, 2007 — Code 9 scored seven runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back as they whipped the Suns, 21-2, in five innings Thursday night in the HOVENSA slow pitch league.
Looking to establish itself as one of the league’s elite teams, Code 9 took no prisoners as they pounded out 21 runs on 20 hits while committing only one error. The Suns finished with two runs on seven hits with three errors.
“Maybe if we could have scored 19 more runs and had three more players, we would have stand a better chance,” quipped Suns coach Jimmy Martin.
A three-run shot by Darren Lewis, a three-run single by Jeffrey Naar, and an RBI double by Julio Carmona accounted for Code 9’s seven runs in the top of the first and the early lead. The Suns answered with their only two runs of the game on RBI singles off the bat of Leandro Reyes and Jack Bernard to trail 7-2 after one inning.
Things went downhill for the Suns from there.

Code added four more in the third on Carmona’s two-run single and RBI singles by Benjamin Robles and Soto, and four more in the fourth and two in the fifth to wrap up the scoring for the game.
