Brief: Construction Causes Sewer Line Leak

Oct. 5, 2007 — Road construction in Estate Williams Delight, Frederiksted dislodged a sewer line causing it to leak into a construction trench.
According to a Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (WMA) press release late Friday, a 30-inch gravity-fed sewer line was impacted by the ongoing construction being conducted by the Department of Public Works. The line’s support was disturbed by the construction and a joint became dislodged causing a leak in the line directly into the construction trench.
The Authority’s Task Order Contractor, O’Reilly Plumbing, has been mobilized to provide a pump-around to lessen the impact into the trench until corrective measures can be taken, the release stated.
The authority, in conjunction with the Department of Public Works, will be correcting the problem. Approximately 200-feet of 30-inch line will be replaced during the flood control construction project.
