Brief: One Dead, One Injured in Shooting Incident

Sept. 3, 2007 — A domestic-violence incident Sunday evening in downtown St. Thomas has left one man dead and one woman in the hospital, according to police officials.
The V.I. Police Department is currently investigating the incident, which appears to have been an attempted homicide and subsequent suicide. During a brief phone interview Monday, Deputy Police Chief Melvin Venzen said the shootings took place around 7:48 p.m. near Bernes Alley, next to the Golden Dragon restaurant. The female victim suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and neck, he said, and she is currently listed in stable but guarded condition at Schneider Regional Medical Center.
The male, who police believe to be the shooter, was found dead at the scene with one gunshot wound to the head.
"Police also found a handgun lying on the ground, in close proximity to the male victim," Venzen said.
