Dear Source:
At least on St. John, one can get close to complete cell phone coverage without roaming by subscribing to all three major cell providers and carrying three phones. I imagine this may be the case on other islands as well. The obvious conclusion to be drawn here is that based on the placement of transmission sources from the various carriers, there's plenty of overlap.
Why can't the cellular service providers share their towers with one another, so all could provide the best possible coverage, and the competition for customers henceforth would be based on what the carrier's plan offers rather than whether one's phone works in Coral Bay, or at the Westin, or at Maho, or on Mammee Peak?
Is there some technical reason this couldn't be done?
