Gary Molloy Named St. Croix Schools Superintendent

Aug. 26, 2007 – Gary Molloy, principal of Central High School, has been tapped to lead the St. Croix school district team. In choosing him, Acting Education Commissioner Lynn Spampinato said she was impressed with Molloy's demeanor, background and service to the district.
Molloy has been an administrator for 10 years, serving at the elementary, junior and senior high school levels. He has been a teacher at Elena Christian and Arthur Richards Junior High Schools. He also taught adult basic education classes.
In a statement released Saturday from the Education Department, Molloy said he believes leadership is a shared responsibility.
“The administration of a school can no longer be left to the personal whim of one person," Molloy said.
He pledged to listen to staff concerns and to open the lines of communication between his office and the students.
Molloy said he is passionate about education, a characteristic that he apparently shares with Spampinato, who uses the term often in reference to the field.
Molloy said as principal of Central High, he worked closely with staff to achieve success while learning from mistakes. He said he keeps up on recent trends in education and has conducted extensive research in professional development.
The bottom line, Molloy said, is the children. "I believe that as an educational leader it is my responsibility to save all of our children through providing them with an education that will afford them the opportunities that I have received and that they are so deserving of,” he said.
Calling Molloy a gentle giant, Spampinato said, "His service has shown that he is data-driven, results-driven, committed to student achievement as well as improved and increased parent and school community relations."
Molloy has a bachelor of science degree, with a major in math education and minor in computer science, from Temple University in Philadelphia, Penn., and his master of arts in education with concentrations in administration and supervision from the University of the Virgin Islands.
