Animal Welfare Center Will Close for One Day to Prepare

Aug. 16, 2007 – The St. Croix Animal Shelter will be closed on Saturday, Aug. 18, in order to prepare their animals and facility for the possible hurricane. Please do not call and request warden pickups unless it is a dire emergency. Also, please note that the AWC is not a boarding facility due to the large number of companion animals in our care. The shelter will reopen after the storm has passed and asks that you bring any found stray dogs or cats then.
It strongly urges every pet owner to get prepared by creating a plan and gathering supplies to be ready when/if a hurricane strikes. The key to safety during a disaster/hurricane is for you and your animals to be as prepared as possible before the storm hits. By taking steps now, you will greatly increase your pet's chances of survival.
For additional information, contact Carole Wells, development director, at 778-1650.
