Education Congratulates Recipients of the Future Teachers Scholarships

July 10, 2007 – Eight students have been selected as 2007 scholarship recipients of the Future Educator of the Virgin Islands Program (FEVIP), according to a press release from the Virgin Islands Department of Education.
The 2007 recipients are graduates of St. Croix Central High School: Lathea Lake, Kelia Medina and Davon Petersen; and graduates from the Charlotte Amalie High School: Krystalia Carrillo, Channell George, Yanique Sonny, Eustacia C. Steinbergen and Kelly-Ann Stevens. These students will receive scholarships to pursue a degree in education at the University of the Virgin Islands beginning this fall.
The FEVIP is designed to encourage high school students to pursue careers in education. Program participants are immersed in academic enrichment as well as employment opportunities that facilitate a genuine understanding of the field of education. The program is open to territorial public high school students in grades 10-12.
Students interested in pursuing education or teaching careers are encouraged to contact La Toya Kitchens, FEVIP coordinator with the Division of Human Resources, at 778-1600.
